Coxos

Part of a landscape that has remained intact from the time it began to be accessed, at the start of the 1970s, the Coxos wave is the one that best symbolises the spirit of the local surfers and the values that govern the Reserve: protection and sustainability.

Formed by a reef that slopes gently and uniformly downwards till the middle of the Dois Irmãos bay, it offers a classic configuration of a point break, with the break line accompanying the coastal contour from start to finish. It is a powerful wave, with different sections, which works with several swell directions, and under ideal conditions it provides tubes of several seconds’ duration. The dedication of the locals to this wave was the initial spark that started the process of candidature for the World Surfing Reserve.
