A forum dialogue to foster the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve

The first meeting of the Municipal Council for the Management of the World Surfing Reserve of Ericeira (MCMWSRE), that took place today, was a strategic moment that marks the reinforcement of the dynamics of preservation and development of the coastal strip that gathers, in four kilometers, seven world class waves. This advisory body of the Municipality of Mafra intends to promote the safeguarding of the protected natural landscape of the 1^st World Surfing Reserve in Europe, accompanying the Save the Wave Coalition guidelines, as well as the concerted intervention of the different local players, both public and private.

After the inauguration ceremony of this new advisory body of the Municipality of Mafra, the members of the Council began to prepare the action plan for 2017.

The MCMWSRE is composed by two bodies, the Select Council, which constitutes the body of support to planning and to the accompanying of the situation of the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve (EWSR), composed by the “Group of Guardians”, composed by the region’s surf related associations, Ericeira Surf Clube, the Association of the Friends of the Coxos Bay, and the S.O.S. Association – Save our Surf; and the Extended Council, which is an advisory body of the EWSR, comprising representatives of the various institutions, of different areas: municipal, environment, sports, tourism, culture, health and safety.
