In 1886, the Conde de Ferreira School was inaugurated, in the middle of the square adjacent to the current Praça da República, heading south, currently non-existent. Paulino Montez also planned the restructuring of this space, in addition to the Terreiro.
It is today the central area of Mafra town. Here, visitors can find local shops, including pastry shops, as well as pleasant terraces from where it is possible to admire the Mafra monument.
