The Municipal Council invites all municipal residents, tourists and the general public to discover the municipality through this heritage. For this, it has created a group of thematic routes which can be taken in different ways.
Guided by intuitive brochures, including maps with the points to visit indicated and texts explaining these points of interest, these five routes do not require specialised guidance from guides. Available online, the brochures are also distributed for free at the tourist offices in Mafra and Ericeira.
While it is possible to follow these paths the year round, in summer, some routes are supported by officials of the regional government, who organise guided visits and provide explanations of some of the topics.
This project is centred on the most visible and monumental facets of the local culture, but heritage is also a starting point for other discoveries, from the landscape to the fauna and flora, and including festivities and cuisine.
